Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links

Championship tees are 6255 Metres on a Par 71.

The Golf

Not to be confused with the popular Old Portmarnock Golf Club, Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links provides a technical challenge from the first few holes despite the natural layout of the course

The course at Portmarnock was designed by Bernhard Langer and Stan Ebyand comes alive from the 8th hole onwards as the choice of club becomes decidedly tougher. With neither water nor trees the magnificently designed course has only a wealth of bushes, and the strategically located bunkers and greens make for an exciting play. The use of natural features, combined elevated tees and green, blind approaches and acute doglegs will keep you thinking through every round.

The back nine provide some outstanding holes that will remain in your memory for many a day. The dogleg 11th is worthy of the stroke index 1. Golf Holidays Abroad Director, Andy Butcher, has rated this as one of the toughest holes he has ever played. Along with the 16th and 18th hole the 11th is included in his list of ‘Best Holes ever played’.

As Darren Clarke stated “It is a great honour to represent Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links, which in my opinion is one of the best courses in Europe.”

While you look out at the beauty of the islands of Lambay and Ireland’s Eye, you will hear the waves crashing on the velvet beach nearby as seagulls, oyster catchers and the skylark make their presence felt. The house was originally owned by the Jameson family, famous for their Irish Whiskey. Their home has been tastefully converted to an international hotel with the grounds now hosting a magnificent 18 hole golf links Course.

The Hotel

The Portmarnock Hotel is set in splendid surroundings. While you look out at the beauty of the islands of Lambay and Ireland’s Eye, you will hear the waves crashing on the velvet beach nearby as seagulls, oystercatchers and the skylark make their presence felt.

The house was originally owned by the Jameson family, famous for their Irish whiskey. Their home has been tastefully converted into an international hotel with the grounds now hosting a magnificent 18 hole Bernhard Langer designed links golf course.

It is no surprise to find that the dining room is named after the artist Walter Osborne who painted the very view from the hotel that you will see in a different light every day of your stay. The menus are developed by the executive chef who presides over the culinary masterpieces daily. In the Osborne restaurant where the menu is changed regularly, a wonderful choice of international cuisine is served with style and friendliness, along with a superb selection of wines. In the less formal Links Restaurant, golfers and locals alike can enjoy excellent dining in a relaxed setting.
